ALL Chaos Emerald Locations: Sonic Chaos [SEGA Game Gear] ✔
My quick guide on how to get ALL of the Chaos Emeralds hidden for Sonic Chaos: SEGA Game Gear version. As is standard in Sonic games, a set number of Chaos Emeralds can be collected to get the best ending. Unique to Sonic Chaos however, getting 100 rings at any point, sends you to straight to the Special Stage. A total of five Special Stages are present in Sonic Chaos, each with it's own Chaos Emerald. Dr. Robotnik has the final Chaos Emerald, as seen in Sonic Chaos' intro cutscene.

Special Stage #1: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/f/fb/SC_8bit_ss1_map.png
Sonic finds himself standing on a floating Rocket Shoes monitor. There is no solid ground and has only a blue background. The objective is to fly forward with the Rocket Shoes, before the time runs out. Unlike those found in various Zones, these Rocket Shoes last indefinitely. While flying forward, you can collect rings and giant rings (worth ten). It is possible to collect at least four extra lives here, and possibly more if willing to take your time. At the end, the blue Chaos Emerald can be found in the middle of a round-shaped formation of large rings. Even if you miss it, you can simply take a (slow) turn back, but be sure to watch the timer.
Special Stage #2: http://info.sonicretro.org/images/4/4a/SC_8bit_ss2_map.png
Starting from the bottom, there are two pathways to climb up along. The left is a route with smaller platforms and rings and large rings. The right is a route with slightly bigger platforms that can only be reached by jumping off Pogo Springs with some careful timing.
Head left, and you will eventually reach a point where they must switch right. The left path has a wall that bars the way to the Chaos Emerald. Thankfully a Stop Clock monitor is also found on this path. Once you reach the top of the right path, the yellow Chaos Emerald can be collected. There is no need to panic if you mess up, as time is thankfully quite lenient here.
Special Stage #3:

Starting from a small room with a warp tube to your right, enter it, and simply let it take it's course. Following a automated pattern, Sonic will be deposited into an identical room with another tube to enter. This process repeats for four rooms until a change of pattern.
After four patterns, the Chaos Emerald can be seen to the right. Do nothing here, and you will eventually come to a room with numerous springs which eventually takes Sonic into one of two tubes to an earlier point in the maze. Instead, hold 'up' when you see a tube to change direction into a different path, for the green Chaos Emerald.
Special Stage #4:

Easily the hardest Special Stage in Sonic Chaos, and is a long, traditional platforming level filled with hazards and obstacles. There are two main paths to take, but be wary of bottomless pits, which will instantly end your progress. The Rocket Shoes are essential to traversing much of this obstacle course. Much of it is littered with springs to slow, and even send you backwards.
Taking the lower path shown here, is filled with breakable blocks which takes a little bit of navigating from the solid blocks. Both paths connect to a Stop Clock monitor and several areas with bottomless pits and areas filled with springs that require key timing with jumping to traverse. Eventually, a Rocket Shoes monitor is required to reach the grey Chaos Emerald on a high ledge. This will take some practice to get right, and be wary of a somewhat limited timer.
Special Stage #5:

A more complex version then before, this Special Stage is a giant maze filled with tubes that require precious navigation. The most difficult part is to work out where exactly to go, but it is surprisingly easy. Head straight through, and simply hold down. That's all you have to do, as Sonic will go around, while holding down will ensure you go down the correct path. Eventually, you will head to a room guarded by a spring and the pink Chaos Emerald.
Scrambled Egg Zone Act 3:
As seen in Sonic Chaos' intro, Dr. Robotnik has the final red Chaos Emerald. Defeat Robotnik as normal to trigger the end sequence. Both scenarios see him escape, but he will only drop it his Chaos Emeralds, if you have acquired the other five. If not, Sonic will chase Robotnik in possession of it, only to trip and fall to let him get away.
