Sharing my opinion about ANVIL, a sci-fi Roguelike top-down shooter, that combined bullet hell, and Hack-N-Slash. Including gameplay.

In ANVIL: Value Breakers, you choose to play one of the various character classes (called 'Breakers') available, including Jungler, Sandman, Lightning, Guillotine, Mountain, Liner, Elsa, Uzi, Toast, Shuri, and Bronte.

ANVIL is a roguelite game as it supports permanent progression between runs/permadeath. It features up to 2-players co-op online play (press release mentioned 4 for some reason). Featuring procedurally generated levels, 40 original weapons with random stats, auto-matchmaking is available.

ANVIL also features season points that allow permanent upgrades to stats for the duration of the season. These points can be obtained through the season pass which progresses with VP or experience points.

In ANVIL, Relic and skill upgrades are random, but merchant robot "Vaulty" in front of boss lairs will help you complete your build.

Who is ANVIL: VAULT BREAKERS for?
- Fans of roguelike & roguelite games
- Gamers who love hack-n-slash and top-down shooters
- Those who previously weren't into rogue-lites due to lengthy runs (e.g. Returnal) and lack of between-runs progression
- If you enjoy Hades, this one is for you!
- Anyone who loves challenging games but one that respect your valuable free time as well
- Players who enjoy games where you need to create strong builds to accomplish tough challenges

Recommended playing: YES.

PROS: Respect for players' time. Inbetween run progression, lots of classes characters to choose from, lots of weapons and relic upgrades. Cool enemies and great boss fights. Great replability and good music.

CONS: For some of the weapons you can't aim and shoot at any angle, rather more angular aiming. Visuals aren't unified and the color palette isn't visually appealing and polished as I would have liked it to be. Not a huge fan of the art direction personally. At least for what I played, each section isn't always exciting and maybe a bit on the short side. Single-player has balancing issue regarding end-boss. Doesn't feel polished. Map design is probably one of its weakest parts.

Game is in early access as of its release on December 2, 2021.

Disclaimer: Review based on a preview build and does not represent the final product. I wasn't able to progress a lot in this game, so this review is based on my limited progression (I'll get better in time... I hope).
