Right after Preston Garvey says his famous line about the settlements, if you listen closely, you can hear Sole Survivor's soul leave the body and painfully vaporize into thin air.

And before you ask me, nope, I've no idea why he waits thirty seconds to say anything. I do have mods installed, but none that do anything to him or the dialogue system in general, as far as I know. But it is incredibly comedic, especially if you mash the directional keys on your keyboard to make your character spur dialogue skip lines.
