Arc the Lad II - Custom Paundit
5This trick allows you to change Paundit's default starting monster class from LV1 Rabid Dog to LV1 any monster class you desire. Provided you own that monster first in another save file.
For ease of recording, the video shows how to perform the trick using the ePSXe emulator but it works and it was also tested on both PS3 and PSP PS One classics releases and on the real PS One and PS2 hardware with real memory cards. Since I do not own the PS4 or the PS Vita, I cannot confirm if this is possible on those systems or on phones running some sort of emulation.
Depending on your method you may need to adjust the save file swapping step.
What you need:
- Arc Arena add-on game
- save file at the beginning of the game inside the Prodias Hunter's Guild
- another save file with access to Arc Arena and one with the monster you want Paundit to be
- setup for two controllers and memory cards. Either real or whatever your method supports.
1. Save inside the guild at the beginning of the game. Make sure the save is on the same slot as any working Arc Arena save on another memory card. We are not going to use that save but we need it for the swapping step.
2. Select the two players mode in Arc Arena. You can also select one player and then load the second player later.
3. You will be shown your applicable Arc Arena saves on that memory card. Select the one that is on the same slot as your Prodias guild save on the first memory card.
4. As soon as it says "Checking Memory Card...", change your memory card for the one with the Prodias guild save.
5. If done successfully, the game is tricked into loading the Prodias guild save even when the save is not enabled for Arc Arena.
6. Right afterwards simply load the second player or load them inside the Arena by talking to Sania. The save file loaded for the second player has to be the one with the monster you want.
7. To be on the safe side, refrain from talking to other NPCs or using the various facilities as player one. Head inside the trading bazaar as player two and trade the desired monster to player one.
8. Save as player one with Sania inside the Arena.
9. You no longer need the other saves. Start Arc 2 again and load the game as usual. You should be inside the guild with just Elc AND your desired monster.
10. Play until Paundit and Lieza join Elc in their first battle. It is OKAY that the previous scene shows the default Paundit. Once the battle starts, Paundit should be your desired monster.
NOTES
Once you take control of the party inside Shu's apartment after Lieza and Paundit join properly, you will notice one extra generic LV29 Rabid Dog. This is some harmless side effect and the monster can be safely either released or trained. Probably the placeholder invisible Rabid Dog that normally becomes Paundit.
Paundit cannot be released or renamed. No matter what you named your monster previously, it will be called Paundit from now on and shown as his default form in scenes.
Stats and the monster's weapon DO NOT matter. Paundit always starts as a LV1 monster with stats adjusted accordingly. He also always starts with the Metal Fang equipped. If the monster cannot use fangs then make sure you do not remove it until you have a proper weapon.
Abilities DO matter. Paundit starts with whatever abilities and levels as the monster you converted had at that time. Depending on your monster and its starting MP and growth, Paundit might not be able to use many of them right away or at least not their higher levels.
