A legendary DJ simulation(or rhythm) game developed and released by Konami. With a monumental achievement of this game, Konami launched BEMANI Series that contains some famous rhythm games like DanceDanceRevolution(DDR), Popn' music, or beatmania IIDX, SDVX(Sound Voltex) and so on.
beatmania series is the first game of BEMANI Series. The word "BEMANI" comes from "'BE'AT'MANI'A."

Controlled with 5-keys and a turntable.

This game runs on Konami Bemani DJ MAIN Hardware.

This game is known in US as "Hiphopmania," and in Korea as "beatstage."

- Trivia -
Although there are some games that use music like Parappa the Rapper(1996), or MELODY BLASTER(1983), beatmania and beatmania series are referred as the first game or game series using music that make a huge success in gaming history and arcade developing history.
Some players often say that the success of rhythm game genre is based on the success of beatmania and beatmania series. With this achievement, lots of game developers released copycats of beatmania or games that could be contain as a rhythm game.

This game actually names beatmania, but lots of players call this game "beatmania 1st MIX."

This game has its own story. Players are new DJ for Club Sagawa. They meet the manager at first and choose to play songs and make money. In default DIP SWITCH settings, after players played 2 songs, they need to play DJ BATTLE for using ONLY SCRATCH.
After that, they play 2 more songs and the game is over. This storyline shows that beatmania is DJ simulation game, using turntable and some panels for DJing.
Genre of songs of this game are Hip-Hop, Raggae, Techno, House, and so on, as players can hear at real club.

코나미 사운드 시뮬레이션 게임 브랜드인 BEMANI 시리즈의 제 1탄. 기념비적인 작품으로, 아케이드 리듬게임이라는 장르를 개척한 게임으로도 평가받는다. 리듬게임이라는 장르 자체가 아예 없었던 것도 아니고, 이전에도 일부 리듬게임들이 있었지만, 상업 아케이드에서 리듬게임을 시장에 정착시킨 것은 beatmania의 공이 컸다고 보는 견해가 많다. 이 작품 시리즈의 성공으로 코나미는 다수의 리듬게임들을 발매하였고, 이와 관련된 특허권을 출원하는 등 리듬게임 업계 전반에 걸쳐 커다란 영향력을 행사하게 된다.

- 이야깃거리 -
코나미 사운드 시뮬레이션 게임 브랜드인 BEMANI의 이름은 beatmania의 언어유희로 만들어졌다.

모든 5키 beatmania 시리즈들을 통틀어서 유일하게 스토리가 있는 작품. [클럽 SAGAWA의 객원 DJ로서 디제잉을 하며 돈을 번다]는 것이 스토리의 중심. 때문에 게임을 시작하면 사가와 클럽의 지배인을 만나고, 지배인으로부터 곡에 대한 간단한 소개도 듣고(선곡한 곡에 대해), 이런저런 대화가 출력되는 것을 볼 수 있다. 때문에 랭킹 화면을 보면 점수 앞에 달러 기호($)가 표시되어 있는 모습을 볼 수 있다.

2스테이지까지 클리어한 후, 디폴트 세팅 기준으로 도중에 DJ BATTLE을 강제로 진행하게 된다. 해당 스테이지는 모든 beatmania 시리즈, 즉 IIDX, beatmania III 통틀어서 유일하게 스크래치만 사용하게 되어 있다. 말 그대로 스크래치 테크닉을 컴퓨터(상대 DJ)와 겨루는 것. 현행의 스크래치곡들이 스크래치의 비중이 높으면서도 동시에 나머지 버튼들도 사용하게 되어 있지만, 이 DJ BATTLE의 경우에는 스크래치만 사용한다. 굳이 버튼을 누른다고 하면 대응되는 키음만 바꾸는 정도.
이 스테이지를 게이지를 가득 채운 상태에서 클리어하게 되면, 숨겨진 곡인 e-motion을 플레이할 수 있다. 그러나 본 작품에서는 e-emotion으로 오타가 나 있다.

당시 최대 난이도는 별 5개. 대상곡은 20,november. 해당 곡은 5키 beatmania의 인기곡들 가운데 하나였으나, 2020년대 현행 BEMANI 시리즈 작품들 중에서는 더 이상 들을 수 없다.
