[Archive] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate -- Ret-2-... oh... oh, no...
This was all ORIGINALLY one stupid-long stream that really got out of control, called "Queen of the Iron Fist! ...in training"
I decided at great personal expense and anguish that I'd cut it down into multiple parts to be more easily digested and all that.
THIS segment is basically the whole reason why the stream went on so stupid long as it did and why I've been plaguing you with delayed-action subscription notifications with gigantic video chunks for so long.
I noted in the Kazuya solo Quickplay video that it gets a lot harder the longer a character has been out and more people have gotten used to whatever gimmicky nonsense might come most naturally. One's own natural inclination and compatibility with the fighting style helps immensely, of course... but suffice to say that there's no easy win button for characters that have long since been "figured out" by and large.
As such, this goes rather harshly for characters who aren't new to the game... or at least their current forms aren't going to surprise anyone. At the very least, you'll have to work harder in the absence of any degree of surprise or blindness within your opponents.
So, "Shantae" will effectively be an old character... of already dubious merit, because Mii Fighters at large don't really seem to get a lot of attention as it is...
That said, it needs to be said that all my Mii Fighters are actually just... "me"... just in cosplay. So that's the reason why she looks more than a little off from her canonical appearance. Normally, I try to make this clearer by avoiding the use of headwear that conceals my own more obvious and natural features that would draw a clearer distinction from the original... ... ... but c'mon... that wig! It's amazing! I simply MUST wear it!
I elected to go for a set that included both Soaring Axe Kick and Shot Put, because while neither is a perfect fit for Shantae's canonical repertoire, there's some very difficult to ignore similarities at play. Her very first outing featured a special move that is essentially the upward component to the up special. And while she's never utilized them in exactly such a way, Shantae's had a history of employing hefty iron balls as projectiles, especially given her tendency to favor ranged special moves to supplement her hair whips.
For the other two, I decided that she was more inclined to kick with her emphasis on capable footwork, and I wanted to go with moves that would accentuate her mobility and agility as a result.
Besides, if I wanted to get the best results, I'd personally use Exploding Side Kick instead! ...but this is supposed to be as "Shantae" as I can get, so I'm willing to try any number of things! (And if I had any real zoning potential, I'd be partial to something like the Brawler's Shot Put anyway... I'd just want to have my exploding cake and eat it too, if I'd had my druthers!)
Apparently, Matt and Erin Bozon almost entirely agreed with my findings, as the quasi-official Mii Brawler configuration they opted for chooses all the same specials I did... except they used... ... ... Exploding Side Kick. Are you kidding me?! (I could have had an "out" after all?! ...but I'm going to have to stick with my own reasoning going forward anyway. Still neat!)
...there's also a sizable chunk in here where I had to step away and do a thing, which meant that I needed a suitable distraction... so there's a not-small stretch of Spectator mode matches lodged in the thick of it all.
For those of you who are strangely upset by the lack of a comprehensive stream upload and really REALLY want to hack away at the unaltered singular OVER EIGHT HOUR stream, you can also access that version here:

...um... or at least that's where it'll eventually be... because it takes a long time to process that long a video, apparently... so... ... ... I guess... please, understand?
(I'll mark it public rather than unlisted when the other bits all go live.)
