[Area-17] ..plunges into Metro 2033 Redux - [Cinema-vieW] - fully explored - [action, fps, horror]
1Well folks, it is winter outside and winter in this game - so everything is matching haha. More precisely, in this game, we will be [deeply] exploring a very scary post-apocalyptic winter, to be correct - full of horrors, monsters and other scary dangers.
This game comes from ex-Stalker developers who decided to form their own game studio and make their own game in Ukraine. [This is just a very short version of their story, if you are interested in knowing more, I'm sure you can look it up more on Google - thanks :]. I'm not exactly sure how to proceed from here with the description of this game. Well, by today's standards it is kind of old by now but to me idk it looks very new and detailed. That is mostly because I feel that some new games are too skimpy on details nowadays, whereas this is very detailed all-throughout - like you can see every little detail in the game environments here - amazing!
The game offers all kind of action to be had as well as many heart-felt moments. Without going into too much detail, in general it is very good. But I would say I did notice two [potential] negatives here. The first one is that, like the game is always bombarding you with 'interesting things,' events and lots of action and details all the time, that it leaves you head-spinning breathless and not giving you enough real ample time to digest any of it or what's happening around you. It's like: this - that - wow here, wow there! - like you don't get some time to sit, relax and breathe properly because always something 'exciting' is shown to you or is happening to you. Sometimes a game's strengths works against it as well - that's my observation here.
My second gripe with this game is that even after its second iteration or revision (the Redux version), a lot of technical bugs, stutters and gameplay issues still remain from the first game. It was funny to me, it's like the developers learned to program the game as they went further into it, because like the beginning battles are very stutter-y especially when lots of those monsters are coming up on your screen. Later on in the game, things do get smoother and faster, but why did they not go back and fix the beginning of the game as well? Even then there are still plenty of frame hiccups and stutters happening even on a very strong computer. [I had a bit of a weaker one before, at the first game's release but still well above the Minimum Requirements]. So it seems regardless of the computer used (I thought it was just me at first), the game still has engine-level graphic rendering problems and slowdowns. So the gameplay is somewhat clunky sometimes. I think they really needed John Carmack to go over the code here hehe :]
I also could not tell the difference between the original and the Redux (based on my memory). The Redux is supposed to be highly improved but to me it was kinda the same lol. And I did not use or play in the Ranger Mode because I felt the game was torturous enough as it is [on Normal difficulty], but maybe for some masochists with plenty of time on their hands, this might be a worthy game-element addition lol.
So all in all, I award this game 11/10 gems, it is above Perfect but not Stellar due to [my] the issues outlined above. Also I feel that sometimes there is too much talking in the game (by dialogue, or journals) that kind of detracts a bit from the action-oriented theme of the game. But overall, very nice and enjoyable game here - highly recommended :-)
