Armored Core Game Sample - Playstation
Original Air Date: April 14th, 2009
Ah...I used to play this game all the time back in the day. I even named my Mech "T260G", a character from another favorite of mine, if anyone can guess what that is. Armored Core is a great and highly customizable mech-sim with a few flaws, but that should be expected from the game that started it all. It has since seen several sequels and upgrades, some more trivial than others.
You are a member of the "Ravens", a mercenary group for hire who does jobs for money and has only one goal: Being the best. You are neither good nor evil in this fictional world you're placed in, ravaged by war and corruption, where people can barely survive. Being one of the few capable of accomplishing lofty goals after the "Great Destruction", you take assignments from Corporations, the only factions left with any power or influence in the world. Nations are a thing of the past and only the strong survive.
You go to many varied and detailed locations doing various things that are required of you, such as defeating a strong enemy or protecting something. I like how not every level is either indoors or outdoors and some levels are labyrinthine in structure. What's just as impressive as the levels is the amount of customization over how your mech looks and performs. You can alter many facets of the mech from its head, shoulder weapons and arms to its body and legs. You have to check each individual parameter such as defensive ability and weight so as not to offset your particular playing style, and there's a lot of parts to be had. One of the only issues that some might find disturbing about this game are the controls, which do take much getting used to. Also, your mech just turns sooooo slow, so you'll often want to boost and strafe to get around agile or powerful enemies.
You lose money for using up ammunition, taking damage, destroying things that shouldn't be destroyed, etc. Some things are a little unfair too, such as innocent guards getting destroyed that you can't possibly reach in a timely fashion or seemingly just blowing up for the heck of it (you can see an instance of that in this video, lol). Still, this is a great game with many missions to accept and lots of fun to be had once learned. This video shows a simple display of the game. Enjoy.
