New people to Ashes of Creation are finding the PvP system a little bit confusing. There are two parts to the PvP system. The first is PvP flagging the second is PvP themes. Each one of these systems has its own rules. There are actually eighting meaningful PvP themes that do not use the flagging system, and then of course there is the open world PvP which does utilize the flagging system.

The big takeaways are Ashes of Creation is not an opt-in or opt-out PvP game. You are always vulnerable to be the victim of PvP; however, if someone kills you while you are in a non-combatant flagging state your murderer will incur corruption. The other is that the PvP themes do not use the flagging system, so the negative experience, corruption, loot drop rules are not present during those themes.
