Assassin's Creed Shadows Everything You Need to Know So Far
Ubisoft has dropped all the details on Assassin's Creed Shadows, the new game set in Japan. They've released a cinematic trailer, revealed the release date, introduced dual protagonists, and more.
The almost four-minute trailer shows off 1579 Japan and the game's two main characters: the stealthy shinobi Naoe and the action-focused Yasuke, who’s actually based on a real historical figure. Even though Shadows is a single-player game, you can switch between these two characters whenever you want.
Mark your calendars for November 15, 2024, because that's when Assassin's Creed Shadows launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, PC, and Amazon Luna. You'll get to dive into an open world in Japan that brings a bunch of cool new features to the RPG genre, like a season cycle. The game world will change from spring to summer, fall, and winter, affecting gameplay. For example, underwater entrances will freeze over in winter, and spring will bring lush crops you can use for stealth. Each season will introduce new gameplay elements, keeping things fresh and challenging.
Light and darkness play a big role in Shadows, fitting with the game's name. Ubisoft's new global illumination system changes how you and your enemies see things based on the light and shadows around you, adding another layer to your sneaking and fighting strategies. This dynamic lighting affects how enemies detect Naoe or Yasuke, depending on the light conditions.
The game’s map is about the same size as Assassin's Creed Origins, set in Egypt, but it’s packed with new stuff. You’ll be able to go prone, use a grappling hook, and cut through almost anything in the game, making the environment more interactive and destructible. Shadows promises to evolve the series' RPG elements, building on the successes of games like Odyssey and Valhalla.
