Stage 1-5: Embryo
S+ run using Shiitake

Shiitake is the new character in Update 6.

I already posted a Shiitake vs. Embryo video... but then today, I started experimenting with a slightly different strategy... and it actually worked noticeably better!

I even managed to beat both Sylaris (who helped me out a lot when I was working on my Starch vs. Embryo high score) and Tgun on the Embryo leaderboard!

I didn't think Shiitake would be able to beat the best Cactus scores (Cactus is a pretty good character against Embryo), but apparently, Shiitake is a pretty good character against Embryo too! =)


Anyway, if anybody's interested, the main differences in strategy between my 417,693 run and my 422,012 run are when and how many Propeller Mines I use.

417: Usually used the Railgun once before switching to mines to give the mines more cooldown time before using them.
422: Usually used mines as soon as possible to give them more cooldown time after using them.

417: For the 6 phases, used: 5, 5, 5, 5, 4, 5 mines.
422: For the 6 phases, used: 5, 5, 3, 5, 4, 5 mines.

For both strategies, I was basically trying to time things so that I got Red, Red, and Blue Powerups (in that order), with a completely cooled down secondary weapon at the end (to finish Embryo off with 5 mines).
