126What started as a 500-word mini-video on how Assist Buttons got me into playing Tekken quickly transformed into a 2,000-word look at what can be done on the single-player end of things to get more people playing fighting games.
While easier controls are a nice addition for new players, the genre seems to have lost itself with how un-special so many of them make the single-player experience feel otherwise. With so many awesome characters and narratives to explore, Story Modes are often falling flat by failing to give an experience that feels any different from playing regular matches.
What's most odd is that it wasn't always like this. Fighting Games of the PS1, PS2, and PS3 eras used to have those engaging offline modes that would create the same franchise and character loyalty that single-player modes in other genres do.
