AstroForge Space Mining Odin Mission
Space mining is an emerging field that seeks to explore and extract valuable resources from asteroids and other celestial bodies. Recently, the American company AstroForge launched a groundbreaking mission to explore minerals in space, with the aim of accessing asteroids rich in precious metals such as gold, platinum, copper, palladium, cobalt and tungsten.
AstroForge’s mission involves the Odin spacecraft, which will travel for approximately 300 days until it reaches the asteroid 2022 OB5. The spacecraft will conduct a reconnaissance mission to determine the presence of valuable metals on the asteroid. If successful, this mission could pave the way for future attempts at space mining, potentially transforming the global economy by supplying the demand of the technology industry for hundreds of years.
The most valuable asteroid known is 16 Psyche. It is located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter and is composed mainly of metals such as iron and nickel. It is estimated that the total economic value of its metals could exceed 10 quintillion dollars. This is dozens of times greater than the value of the Earth's global economy.
