Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
Delving into the grab-bag of versus fighters once again, Asura Blade is an interesting, if unremarkable title. As far as I can tell, the game was released exclusively in Japan, and the lack of English translation meant the story was lost on me.

The game features an art style that's somewhat reminiscent of SNK's King of Fighters and Capcom's Street Fighter Alpha series of fighters. Graphically, it's quite impressive, although maybe not up to the best its peers have to offer.

As for the combat, it's pretty typical for a game of this type. Characters can execute a range of punches, kicks and special moves. Engaging in combat gradually fills an energy meter which, when full, can be used to fuel super special moves and devastating combos. Certain fighters can even hurl their weapons at the opponent as a form of ranged attack, and gain access to additional moves when unarmed. In the case of Yashaoh, it's actually a requirement to be unarmed in order to execute his super special.

Although it might be unknown to some, competent game design, attractive presentation and robust controls mean Asura Blade is worth checking out, even in a genre so heavily dominated by rivals; worth checking out.
