Asymmetry Between Player And AI: Discussion of Majesty Core Loop, Gameplay, And Conceptual Expansion
Magesty is a Fantasy RTS with a twist: You have no direct control over the heroes of your city. As you expand your town and develop your tax income you are constantly besieged by monsters generated from different buildings across the map. How do you get your heroes to destroy them? Why, with bribery of course!
Developed at the turn of the century, Majesty was an interesting and novel experience I have not seen again outside of its expansion and its sequel. Both are available via gog.com with the links below. Do keep in mind that some troubleshooting may be involved in getting it running as classics often are updated by gog to the best of their abilities, but many old games have quirks when run on modern systems.
Worth noting Majesty is available on Steam for the same price, but I have had much less success getting it to run properly via the steam version.
Also worth noting: The resolution is iffy on a 4k Monitor as it only adds a background around the original gameplay resolution. Launching it on a 1080p monitor found much better results.
