At the UN, Lula defends cutting international spending on wars
💡 WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
🏢 Government Power | President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) condemned this Tuesday (September 23, 2025) what he called the "ongoing genocide in Gaza." In a speech at the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, he stated that Hamas' attacks against Israel are "indefensible from any angle," but added that nothing justifies the disproportionate military response that has victimized Palestinian civilians.
According to the Workers' Party member, "there, under tons of rubble, are buried tens of thousands of innocent women and children. There, too, are buried international humanitarian law and the myth of the West's ethical superiority."
