At the UN, Lula says that regulating social networks is not censorship, it is applying the law
💡 WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
🏢 Government Power | President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) stated, in a speech at the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) this Tuesday (September 23, 2025), that "the internet cannot be a 'lawless land.'"
The Workers' Party member is referring to the regulation of social media, an issue that is causing friction between the administration of US President Donald Trump (Republican Party) and Brazil. According to Lula, "regulation is not about restricting freedom of expression. It's about ensuring that what is already illegal in the real world is treated as such in the virtual environment."
