5In which I play "Protector", published by Synapse Software in 1981, and programmed by Mike Potter. This is a "Defender-inspired" game. It's definitely not Defender. ;-) Actually, it really isn't. The idea is to ferry humans to a base before the indestructible (?) enemy picks them up one-by-one and drops them into a volcano! I did not have the patience or the skill to figure out where the base was. I eventually decided that the player probably has to ferry them to a middle section before proceeding past a barrier.
I wanted to like this more than I did, and at least some of the issue was with me, not the game itself. That said, some of it was the game itself.
