My Mega STe was very noisy. It never has been very silent, but 20 years of usage and dust did not help, so I decided to replace the old 60mm fan by a brand new one.

Since I had good experience so far with the Noctua products, I decided to go for their (expensive in regard of the competition) 60mm NF-A6x25 FLX Premium Fan.

It's basically a plug and play replacement, just make sure you plug it on the red and black pins, not red and yellow.

Also, the old fan (Nidec BETA SL - D06T-12TH R) connector was glued and I had to scrap the glue with a knife blade for a while before it finally got loose.

I'm also considering cutting the plastic case to make a larger hole and cover it with a metal grid to improve the air flow.

Edit: All the details are on the blog article: http://blog.defence-force.org/index.php?page=articles&ref=ART45
