Volvo B18A self-ignition
After converting the B18 engine to run on unleaded petrol, we started to have some problems when switching off the engine: After turning the key the engine still runs and we have to force it down by engaging a gear.
So far we had three suggestions:
- The timings are not correct, so the distributor head should be realigned
- The added compression requires spark plugs that can evacuate more heat
- Even converted we should use Super 98 instead of Super 95
I could not test the timing advance, I can't access the bolt with my tools, I will let a specialist do that.
For the spark plugs, today I replaced the NGK BP6HS by brand new BPR8HS, but that does not seem to change anything.
I guess the next thing to try is to refuel using 98 next time I go the the gas station.
