Attacking the Narwhal SSN in the Sierra I SSN. The Narwhal SSN is a special one-off modification of the Sturgeon-class SSN boat. It features natural convection cooling at slower speeds that reduces the number of pumps for cooling at slower speeds and this improves its acoustic performance during those slower speeds. At higher speeds, more pumps are being activated nullifying the superior acoustic performance at slower speeds.
