Kieran is another unit that kind of gets screwed over by this format. Because of his putrid 41 Spd and 30 Res, he struggles against most of the mages in the series. And having a weakness to the horseslaying weapons doesn't help either, even with the great 60 Def that he has. Another thing that is unfortunate for him is how his skill, Wrath, works in this game. In PoR it activates when the user is at 50% health, but in RD, the threshold is at a much lower 30%. This normally wouldn't be a problem for him if he had it in game (In this series Gamble is translated to Wrath), but because of all of the one-shot masteries and his susceptibility to Magic attacks, it's sometimes hard to get into that range for him. All that being said, he is still probably the one that uses Wrath the best in this series (Edward, Nephenee, & Nealuchi are the others). He's got the good HP stat and Def which gives him more opportunities to reach the threshold, something Nephenee doesn't have. And he also has the raw damage to do something significant with it, something Nealuchi and Nephenee don't have. And Nealuchi/Nephenee would much rather Tear/Impale than crit anyways (In Nephenee's case, she can crit from range which is nice, but she mostly attacks up close anyways). I also think he uses it better than Edward since you get more opportunities to attack at the 30% threshold by going countering more often than if you initiate which Edward does a lot. With Kieran, since his mastery is just a crit anyways, he doesn't mind doing either (except in some very specific scenarios where he'd rather heal). But perhaps the biggest issue for Kieran is that terrible hit rate that he has with the average Skl and terrible Lck. Because he is stuck with Swords and Axes, he has no range game since Alondite is only 80 Hit and Tomahawk is, well, Tomahawk. He does have Urvan to fall back on with its ridiculous 110 hit rate, but the fact that he has to use it in spots where many other units would use Brave weapons is less than ideal since he misses out on damage and/or Sol procs.

The unit with the higher base speed will initiate first. (If unit has Shade or Stillness they will always choose who goes first). If both units have the same speed, the unit whose video it is will go first.

For weapons, the unit who is faster chooses the weapon they want the unit they are attacking gets to choose a weapon to counter them with. The unit who attacks first, goes through all the possible weapon combinations and picks whatever situation would give them the best chance at victory. After the initial turn, the only time a unit can change their weapon is on their turn.
