AXELAY (SNES - FULL GAME)
54Zeus presents Axelay (un-emulated) for the Snes, a true classic from the golden era of Snes gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1992
This was voted by many Snes gamers as one of the most impressive shooters on the system which in fairness never quite had the same amount as the Megadrive or infact many other systems when it came to shmups but I was still looking forward to playing this.
It has a very strange top view as the top of the screen is shaped in a curve as if you were high enough to see the planet's horizon, quite original but I'm not sure if I personally like it and would rather have the entire screen normal without the curve effect.
Graphics are very nice and it includes one of my favourite looking game bosses (The Fire Boss - 32:51), it also plays very well with not too much slowdown allowing for good fast shooting.
The music is ok but in fairness I never really liked the sound of the Snes soundchip, I just could never warm to it but it does accompany the game quite well.
All in all a very nice shooter and is a great addition to the Zeusdaz Unemulated Retro Game Channel.
I have used the infinite lives Action Replay code so I could upload the entire game for your viewing pleasure.
