Rumors about this one, odd boy spreads fast.

' How did he get accepted at such a young age? '
' He never talks to anyone, is that no suspicious? '
' Maybe he's some sort of freaky experiment. '

Nathan doesn't escape one day without hearing something new being said about him. He doesn't remember care for it though. In his head, most of them are true, despite every single one being false in reality.
Nathan is, how to put it lightly.. extremely disabled.
His life during childhood wasn't easy, and some of his issues are even genetic. He was hit by almost everything.
Nathan suffers with multiple illnesses and disabilities, which doesn't allow him to function like any other human being. Not that he's any less human, in fact he's probably the one closest to human out of all of them.

He was found by an officer for a private force when he was barely 12 years old, as just another orphan. At first, the officer was just going to transfer him to a nearby safe-zone, but after witnessing Nathan's skills for technology, it was decided that he'd stay with the force.
Against his will.
Nobody was ever really disclosed about how he ended up there, and as a child who was both physically and mentally unable to do anything to prevent it from happening, there wasn't anything for him to say.
Even if he spoke up about it, people would look at him like he was joking. They expected a 12-year-old boy to be able to fight for himself because... everyone else could, that was with him as an exception.
Nathan, even in his current state, is still not able to do much. Being forced to wear a chest and back brace to prevent his body from collapsing together, and being completely isolated from others, it didn't exactly have a positive effect on him. Despite his talent, and somewhat cocky facade around people, he was nothing. Just a bag of bones who would eventually wither away because he wasn't able to fight back.
It was a terrifying thought for him. He was sure those around him just took him in out of pity, which meant that they could throw him out just as fast as he got in.
Other people would describe him as odd, for this reason.

' He only appears for special events.. '
' What is it he does again? Nobody has ever seen him do anything! '
' Does he get special treatment because he's ill? '

Nathan didn't care for other people anyways. His emotions were conflicted, and weird. It was like his body rejected his emotions, not allowing him to understand what others felt, including himself. He never really understood his illnesses anyways, but they made him insecure, and insecurity was bad, he knew that much.

Maybe one day he'd be free from it, but they were treating him to nicely, so he should probably just do as he's told.
