There is new software on Steam called 'Game VRoom' that allows you to use VR controllers to play flatscreen games in VR and map them to mouse and keyboard controls. I wanted to demo a couple games played using it. My early impressions are that it is a promising software but it has some big issues.

Mapping the controllers is fairly easy and intuitive but the lack of buttons on the standard VR controller will make playing many games difficult. Ratcheting is the standard method of controlling the mouse which is nice. Gesture mapping and virtual space buttons are also available if you are into that. There is also pretty bad performance due to many overlapping VR environments (Oculus home, SteamVR, GameVRoom) plus the game itself. Mouse control is unfortunately stuttery and not smooth at all, and the sensitivity is very low even maxed out. The mouse stutter plus the poor performance makes accuracy difficult.

Overall it's nice to have another option for split control motion controls, but there are easier options available that aren't tied to VR.
