I didn't originally anticipate completing the first episode in a single session. Honestly, the fact that my start was delayed on that first session made me think that it would take me a second session to get through. The thing is, I have a weird habit when it comes to playing Ace Attorney games. Well, to be honest, I have multiple AA-related habits, but the pertinent one is that I only like to suspend play at the game's checkpoints. Manually saving in the middle of a story sequence has just always felt... wrong to me. Granted, I kind of had to overcome that aversion when I was playing through GAAC... but expect me to hold firm to that old habit throughout this playthrough. At the very least, it'll make things feel a bit cleaner... but it may lead to some uneven pacing when it comes to episode length.

I didn't expect any of the remaining four episodes to be one-session wonders, though. I've estimated that the rest of them will take at least two recordings to complete, maybe three at the most. All-in-all, I was expecting this game to take me anywhere from 10 to 15 sessions to complete, with my original prediction being a whopping 12. Finishing the first chapter makes me think that it'll go even faster... but optimism never seems to go all that well for me. I also intend to keep up my trend of recording twice-weekly, but with my stream schedule going back to normal, that's going to take some very inventive scheduling to maintain. Fortunately, I have a few ideas on that front. It's just going to be a matter of making it work. Still, Back the Log Off! won't be my top priority again until I wrap up the bonus streams for the year. So sometimes, I'll just have to take a loss on keeping up. I do still intend to finish up the entire Trails in the Sky trilogy this year, which will definintely mean most weeks will have to fit in at least two recordings. But considering that I'm still ahead of schedule on AAI2, things may be looking up.

Okay, that's enough talking shop. Let's move onto the game itself. KI had warned me after I finished the first episode that all of the cases in this game are connected in ways that the mainline series never allowed for. I guess I just didn't expect the perpetrator from Chapter 1 to be the victim this time around. I also wasn't expecting to see so many cameos from the older games. Like, seriously, the very first killer from the mainline AA series showed up in this one. I love references like that. Though admittedly, I think I got some PTSD from what's in store for me next time.

I was also introduced to the characters that will surely become our main antagonists for the remainder of the game. A villainous judge is an interesting concept... though admittedly, I guess the wow factor has been worn down a little bit considering the fact that I've been kind of skipping around when it comes to playing through the series itself. Still, I like her design and the fact that I already want to destroy her makes it clear that she plays her role to perfection. Sebastian DeBeste, on the other hand, is a little twerp and the more comedic of the two. He seems like more of a consolation prize that Edgeworth and co. will be slapping around throughout this adventure, while Judge Courtney remains untouchable until the very end. Of course, they could also just be red herrings. I don't know, I'm not always good at guessing the exact details of stories like this. Even when I'm heading in the right direction, I sometimes botch the landing. I can still remember KI's knowing (almost smug) laughter when I tried to predict the outcomes of a few cases in Danganronpa V3. Hey, but there's no hard feelings there. I'm just opining on my gut feelings. Whether I'm wrong or right remains to be seen.

I took a sneak peek at a spoiler-free walkthrough before I started playing the game, just to get a breakdown of how many overall story segments there were. I didn't make it any further than the table of contents, though. But based on what I know, I believe I'll be able to wrap up Chapter 2 next time. I'm also impressed that I have yet to resort to what is easily my worst AA-related habit as of right now. Maybe the fact that this playthrough is being recorded is why I'm avoiding it. I don't think it'll last through the entire playthrough though... and believe me, I'll definitely be pointing it out in these text diaries if my resolve wavers.
