Back the Log Off! - Episode 55: Filler Instinct

I think it's safe to say that this will be the last "filler" recording I do for Trails in the Sky the 3rd. I managed to do the two remaining Moon Doors, which were honestly going to be the biggest time sinks out of all of the side content. So everything else should be able to fit snuggly in my regular BtLO! schedule. I'm kind of ambivalent. On one hand, it feels like I won't have to worry about spinning my wheels when it comes to the game. But I have to admit, focusing entirely on world-building side stories definitely scratched an itch. After all, the Bracer assignments were one of the things that really drew me into the Trails games thus far.
I think I mentioned this in the stream itself, but NISA's special update today ended up being entirely related to Trails into Reverie. In addition to confirming that it's the next game to release after Azure comes out next March -- sorry, Nayuta -- they also showed off the special edition and a newly-announced PS5 version. I feel like the Crossbell games would've benefitted more from the additional platform, but let's face it: your average consumer is going to be put off by the 2D assets anyway. I'm just glad that PH3 Games put so much care and attention into their ports for Zero and Azure.
I have to admit, I feel a bit stupid for not realizing the location of that "last" Moon Door. I guess I just assumed that each door only had a single story segment associated with it. But considering that the second phase was literally just a continuation of the first door I encountered in the entire game, it makes complete sense that they would share a door. Getting a whole story featuring the kids from Mercia Orphanage was also pretty great. I don't know why, but I actually really enjoy it when the game just decides to tell random stories focused entirely on characters outside the playable ones.
I ended up doing a whopping four Star Doors this time around as well. I originally expected to do that many before I realized that I could knock out all of the remaining Moon Doors this time, so I'm happy that I managed to make all of that progress this time around. The stories themselves were pretty interesting too: I especially liked going through the Raven's final exam to become Junior Bracers. I am a little bit ashamed that I skipped one Star Door, but honestly, I just didn't want the one that costs money to activate to hang over my head any more. I don't know if the fact that it was definitely worth it -- both in terms of the story content and the completion reward -- makes me feel better or worse about skipping the one that came before it. I'll definitely make it up to Star Door #8 in my next recording though. I'm also hoping to wrap up Chapter 6 on Monday as well, but we'll just have to wait and see.
