Back the Log Off! - Episode 56: Renne the Gauntlet

Well, I ended up finishing up Chapter 6 this time after all. Admittedly, I was hoping to have enough time to do a Star Door afterwards, but at least I've made it further in this chapter. There's not really much else to say, in terms of what happened. Hell, I didn't really even discuss much this time around, likely due to the fact that I was just preoccupied with actually finishing the damn thing.
I think the most interesting part of Chapter 6 is that it felt like yet another farewell tour. Though honestly, this isn't the only chapter in Sky the 3rd that tried to pull off this tactic. I already mentioned how I appreciated how 3rd was recontextualizing existing areas from the previous games into dungeons. But unlike SC's eighth chapter which felt like a farewell to Liberl itself, this was more about specific locations and moments throughout the course of the first two games. Sort of more like a "greatest hits" album as opposed to a final send-off.
Chapter 6 also feels a bit like a bizarro version of a boss rush, forcing players to face off with several major NPCs from throughout the franchise... most of which were allies throughout the series. Hell, considering Renne (and to a lesser extent, Joshua) is in our party, one could even say that the other Enforcers counted as friends. Even if I've still got at least two chapters -- and I believe the game also has a proper "finale" section like SC did -- this really feels like the final good-bye to the Sky series. And I think that's probably what I appreciate the most about the 3rd. It's not *actually* the third game in the Sky trilogy. It's more of an interlude between arcs. It's just that since the Liberl Arc was the only game completed at that point, it's just leaning heavily into that game's setting, story and lore. But despite all that, it also kind of feels like an "advertisement" (and I mean that in the kindest way possible) for the adventures yet to come.
I'm not sure if I'd count my prediction at the start of the stream being correct. While I did assume -- but didn't outright state -- that Chapter 7 would likely be taking place behind that imposing gate blocking off the area where the Erbe Royal Villa itself once was, I wasn't expecting to fight the Schwarzritter at the Chapter 6 climax. Honestly, I was almost expecting Cassius to be the chapter boss: I certainly had way more trouble with him compared to ol' Schwarzy! At the very least, the strategy I'd perfected back in SC ended up working on Loewe just as well as it did last time. But for whatever reason, I just couldn't pull off a similar trick with Cassius and had to outright rely on dropping the difficulty to beat him. Honestly, every time he got that power-up move off, I knew I was pretty much toast. At the very least, the fact that I beat him the first time I switched to the easier fight told me that I was on the right track for beating him. I just didn't have the speed to pull off the full Loewe strategy on him.
As a final aside, it turns out the last Star door is found in the secret dungeon. So I guess I'll be trying to do that at some point. Either way, it seems like to compensate for the sheer amount of boss fights in Chapter 6, 7 may be a much more story-focused section. I mean, considering that we ended up in the orphanage where Kevin and Ries grew up -- and the fact that the sixth realm is completely tapped out in terms of warp points, that just feels like a safe assumption, right? Either way, I could definitely go for some lore dumps next time to make up for all of the fighting. I may even break my promise and do another filler stream to get through that backlog of Star Doors, as well as the final Sun Door.
