Race selection in the old AD&D games like Baldur's Gate II is a lot different than in modern 5th edition. There are fewer choices overall, and the pros/con are quite distinct. If you've never played this classic CRPG before, enjoy my gameplay guide to help you choose the best race to play in Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn.

Each race has a positive and negative when it comes to their stats, plus they all have various bonuses against saves and some of them have unique bonuses to specific types of hit bonuses, like halflings with slings, or elves with bows and longswords.

In addition, all but humans come with some type of infravision, which can be useful when exploring the underground sections of Baldurs Gate 2: Enhanced Edition.
