I was even able to skip Shar's Trials entirely by jumping into the Illithid Colony. I'm really glad I managed that. During the fight in the prism, you can at least use Against the Abyss. But one mistake and it's game over. Still, there was a lot that could have been done better. I mean, you can also convince Kethric to throw himself straight into the pit... although I don't know if you have to convince him on the tower top to do that.
