Never played it, and now it's here. Oblivion! Remastered! I've probably spent the most time in a single game in Skyrim, and now I'm expecting another bomb. Maybe a little smaller. I specifically waited a bit for patches and bug fixes, but apparently the game has barely been updated or fixed and is in exactly the same bad state as the original. Oh well, let's see what awaits me...
Well, very disappointing. After a bit of research, the game has always been pretty unbalanced. And if you play on Master difficulty, you can only play a few classes to get through the game. Poisons and spells are supposed to be OP, especially spells that also make enemies vulnerable to spells. None of that existed in Skyrim. Spells were useless in the mid- and late game because they didn't get any better and didn't do more damage. The sword combat here is incredibly poorly implemented. You can't really dodge, or well, it's always a matter of luck. Blows and weapons do next to no damage. I mean, 3 or 4 damage? That's really nothing. I can fight almost unarmed. It's definitely not on the level of a remastered version. They really just repainted everything and slapped the full price on it, and that was it. I played the original Oblivion years ago, and it feels almost the same here. If, like me, you don't care for magic and always have to hit the target with your spells, you can't have any fun with the game. How many times have I died in the tutorial now? Skyrim had that too, but at least you had a learning curve and the feeling that you were getting stronger, that things were looking up. Once you leveled up enough, you reached a tipping point and could become exponentially stronger because the skills synergized. But here...you can only survive if you've already played the game for 200 hours and know where things are, what you need first, where to get them, who sells you which potions and skills, and how to combine them. Very sobering. I really thought this would be the game of the year again.
