On paper the idea of a wireless handheld with a selection of classic arcade games delivered to your TV via HDMI input seems like an excellent idea. Indeed if the Bandai-Namco Flashback Blast HAD been well produced, I would have happily praised the low $7 price point that I picked it up for at Walmart. The fact this is an At Games product is your first clue that it wasn't well made. The HDMI dongle is so oversized it crowds out everything on the back of your TV, and when you see the quality of the games it plays, you wouldn't WANT to unplug your Xbox One, PS4 or Nintendo Switch for THIS. These are crappy NES ports, not that the ports themselves are crap, but the fact these are advertised as "arcade classics" but aren't the arcade versions IS crap. It's not like they'd be that hard to do right but At Games took the laziest "NES-on-a-chip" route possible to do this system, and to make matters worse they didn't even optimize the output for HDMI, which means you'll get shimmering and screen tearing any time the screen scrolls to the point you'll get a massive headache. The biggest insult may in fact be the D-pad on the controller. How hard would it have been to make a D-pad that's not total crap? Even a cheap bootleg Famiclone can come with a controller that has a decent D-pad, but this one wobbles around a half inch above the unit and makes precise moves IMPOSSIBLE. Don't buy this product, not even as a joke. Subscribe to Mistah MegaManFan for more video game news and product reviews!
