The space shuttle is by far my most favorite rocket system ever. Despite some say that it's a deadly machine or that it failed to achieve its original goal to make spaceflight easily reusuable, it has gone down in history as one of the most unique, most iconic and remarkable feats of space engineering. Flying for over thirty years, it has carried hundreds of astronauts on 135 missions, conducted science experiments, deployed lots of satellites, and carried modules to construct the International Space Station.

The shuttle flew so often that many people did not recall a moment when a shuttle was not flying. Some of the managers of the program took it for granted before STS-51L (the Challenger disaster); but the people who worked on it directly — the engineers and astronauts - all gave it the respect and attention it deserved, even if it means fighting for it. Its only after the program was concluded when more started to care about its history.

The design of the space shuttle (in my opinion) is wonderful just as it is - a sleek, compact and iconic spaceplane that has endured ups and downs throughout its history, but still remains strong. The first two missions had the external tank painted white, but later flights left it in its natural orange color.

This video is dedicated to the talented engineers, astronauts and workers who worked on the Space Transportation System program, and still to this day reflect on the best moments between the years 1981-2011.

Featured are rare high quality footage from external sources and beautifully enhanced pictures.
