Why You Need a Launch Escape System!
A launch escape system is a rocket booster attached to the command module of all Russian rockets (and the Apollo Command Module and the future Space Launch System). In the case of an emergency such as an explosion, this system can 'eject' the command pod containing the astronauts away from the exploding rocket, to a safe and high enough altitude for parachutes to deploy.
In this mission, four kerbals are about to blast off to space, bound for the Skylab Workshop Station; launching aboard an experimental 'Soyuz-Atlantis' rocket system. However things don't go according to plan: an anomaly occurs during liftoff.
