Baseball Stars 2 Playthrough
01992, NES. Rating: 2.5 out of 4 stars
Rather than repeat the over-the-top style of its Arcade cousin, the NES version keeps things tame with a more “accurate” representation of the game. In terms of fundamentals, the game gets most things generally right. Runners aren’t too fast or too slow and the basic defensive fundamentals are solid. Fielding, particularly in the outfield, can be an adventure, though. It would have been nice to have a radar and a little more control over the defenders. Hitting takes a little getting used to, but the basics are easy enough to pick in a single playthrough. Same goes with pitching, which doesn’t get too elaborate. It’s fun getting to throw pitches in the dirt and maybe fool the hitter. There’s an in-season mode and there is decent depth, but it’s best played in smaller doses. You could do worse for baseball, but the original is the better game.
