When you don't have the funds for a MiSTer but would something that is almost as accessible and easy to use you could go for Batocera or Lakka. Of course software emulation and FPGA circuit implementations are quite different beasts, but for the regular end-user possibly not that different when you look at functionality.
Both Batocera and Laka are Linux based OSes that resemble RetroPie. They present you with a nice frontend and allow you to put your games in specific folders and have them ready to go. Batocera does a lot more systems than Lakka as the latter basically is just RetroArch as a GUI on top of a Linux Kernel. Batocera is a more complete Linux that gives you access to FLATPAK Apps, Steam, Streaming Steam games, and high end emulators like RPCS3, Xemu and others. Also it emulates a ton of retro computer systems.
Both Lakka and Batocera have excellent websites, FAQs and how To's that will get you up and running in no time. Both Lakka and Batocera are available in many different flavours running on a huge variety of systems ranging from single board computers, Android boxes to 32-bit and 64bit PCs. You can install it to an internal drive and boot from that or use an SD-card or USB Thumbdrive and boot that on a computer you want to game on. Your own personal arcade on the bootable thumbdrive or SD-card.
Now this video: of course what happens with these old Hauppage HD PVR Rocket captures is that the audio goes out of sync. And this video is no exception. So there's really no good way to get it all synced up. So I left it all in unedited pretty much a real time capturing from the system so you get an idea
of how fast things load and the snappiness of the GUI. It's much better in person than is visible on this video.
