Battle Circuit (Arcade) Playthrough
Playthrough of Capcom's 1997 beat 'em up for the Arcades, Battle Circuit.
Battle Circuit is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed and published by Capcom for arcades in 1997. Set in a futuristic world filled with cybernetic bounty hunters, the game follows a group of eccentric heroes as they take on a dangerous mission to stop a criminal organization from using a powerful computer program known as the "Shiva System." The game's vibrant comic book-style presentation and quirky cast of characters set it apart from other beat 'em ups of the era, blending fast-paced action with over-the-top humor and sci-fi elements.
Players can choose from five unique bounty hunters, each with their own fighting style and special abilities. The roster includes Cyber Blue, a classic hero-type character; Captain Silver, a masked swordsman with electric attacks; Yellow Iris, a cat-loving martial artist; Pink Ostrich, a bizarre bird-riding combatant; and Alien Green, a plant-based creature with stretchy limbs. Each character has access to a variety of punches, kicks, and powerful "Battle Download" moves that can be upgraded throughout the game by collecting in-game currency known as "energy disks."
The gameplay follows the traditional beat 'em up format, where players move through stages while defeating waves of enemies before facing off against powerful bosses. However, Battle Circuit adds depth with its upgrade system, allowing players to enhance their characters with new attacks and abilities between levels. The game also supports up to four-player cooperative multiplayer, making battles even more chaotic and engaging. The enemy designs are as eccentric as the playable characters, featuring everything from robotic foes to bizarre mutant creatures, all presented with colorful animations and detailed sprite work.
Battle Circuit stands out due to its unique art direction, humor, and innovative mechanics that go beyond the standard beat 'em up formula. Despite being one of Capcom’s last major arcade beat 'em ups, it was never released outside Japan and Europe until later ports brought it to modern audiences. Its mix of fast action, deep mechanics, and quirky charm has earned it a cult following among fans of the genre.
