The Hercules class DropShip is a new troop transport that has already begun establishing a reputation as a reliable, valuable vessel. Originally designed and produced in the Lyran half of the Federated Commonwealth, the class has seen extensive action against the Clans and is becoming a common sight within the Lyran Armed Forces.
Bowie Industries of Alarion produces the Hercules, which is a distant relative of the Overlord. The Hercules uses many of the same components as the Overlord, which has enhanced greatly Bowie’s ability to rapidly produce the new vessel.
The prototype Hercules saw service with the Thirteen Donegal Guards when they attacked the Jade Falcon world of La Grave, providing armor and infantry support for the landings at Bissau. The mission very nearly turned into a disaster when a pair of OmniFighters from the Gurbeng Garrison Cluster attacked the LZ with the intention of damaging or destroying the invaders’ grounded transports. The OmniFighter pilots did not know for the considerable firepower of the Hercules and simply were destroyed.

Battletech: The Mechwarrior Dropship Guide should provide basic information about Dropships and their role in the interstellar travel. If you are in a Successor State of the Great Houses, the Clan Occupation Zones or on Holy Terra. From the Inner Sphere to the Periphery and the Clan Home worlds, every Mechwarrior can use this information to learn about Battletech lore and Battletech history.
Drop-ships are the workhorse of interstellar travel.
All-important classes will be introduced and their features (aerodyne/ spheroid, Docking Collar, KFFC Boom, Mech Bay, fighter cubicle, …) explained. You will see, that in the BattleTech universe, BattleMechs are not the pinnacle of technology.
