Beatboxing into the DOOM ARRAY (Is this Mick's secret technique?)
This is a goofy video but nevertheless interesting. On a very real level - I kept the video short to try and be engaging but if you are curious then you will likely be reading the description.
I think that a lot of wavetables which end up being used for more expressive rhythm synths are very similar to what human vocals can produce. You may notice that percussion style sound are especially similar in this regard. For context - I was experimenting with some vocal distortion for an upcoming song and just began making percussion sounds.
