The other day I saw a video where someone attempted to do this and failed, as they got stuck on the base defense mission and couldn't complete it. I noticed, though, that they were doing a lot of things that weren't exactly optimal, so I decided to give it a go myself, and I succeeded.
Now, there are missions in this game that cannot be started with only one soldier. In those cases, the Chosen One will be the only one doing the fighting, and the other soldier/soldiers will be doing as little as possible, either doing nothing at all, or moving to stay as far away from the fighting as possible.
Unlike the aforementioned video though, I decided to save scum to help ensure the victory. The way I see it, if it's allowed in speedruns, it should be allowed here as well.
I did this in three sessions, so I will be uploading three videos of raw unedited footage (because I just spent all day playing XCOM and I can't be bothered to edit it)
