Bedlam Text Adventure for the TRS-80 Color Computer
Bedlam is one of the iconic text adventure games released by Radio Shack for the Color Computer, it originally appeared on the TRS-80 Model 1 and 3 computers, and like a few other titles, such as Pyramid 2000 and Raaka Tu, it made it's way to the CoCo.
Like many text adventures of the day, your job is to explore a world using one or two word commands like "go south" or "look room" or "get torch" to interact with your world, text adventure games are very much like interactive fiction.
What makes Bedlam so unique, is that it's set in a mental hospital, you away in a padded room, and your single goal is to survive and escape.
Along the way you meet a dynamic cast of characters, like Houdini, Picasso, Napolen Bonaparte, and the not so friendly medical staff like the mad doctor and nurse ratchet.
In addition to the unique setting of the game, it's also unique in that the escape solution is different each time you play, and your interactions with the various characters, and the characters themselves will change each time.
I was actually surprised I was able to complete this game successfully on my first try in over 30 years, and in roughly an half hour, not bad!
This game and the manual are available on the Color Computer Archive, a link is on my website http://ogsteviestrow.com
