Berets and Caps: Changes in Uganda Police Force Uniform Dressing
The Uganda Police Force has announced changes in Police uniform dressing, with particular attention to the head gear.
Under the new police uniform changes, there will be a clear distinction between an officer on administrative duty and that one in operations, Asan Kasingye, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, who doubles as the Police Political Commissar, told reporters in Kampala recently.
"I sent a message last week to all officers in the field about the way they should put on either operational uniform or when they are in administration," said Kasingye.
"We have now ordered that all officers who are in operations should put on a beret. Any officer who is putting on the general duty uniform or working in counter-terrorism or in the Field Forces Unit or Anti-Stock Theft Unit and is in operation must have a beret."
Kasingye said that when in office or administration, Police officers are supposed to wear a peaked cap. “We shall be putting it on on administration uniform."
"For assistant inspector generals, we are yet to receive a designated and approved head dress," said Kasingye.
In March this year, Uganda Police Force made changes to its uniform following a Police Council meeting of 2019 that recommended degazetting of four uniforms, leaving a total number of 13 uniforms from 17.
In the new changes, traffic officers were directed to wear regular khaki uniform customized with Police shirt label with an ash white beret for men and white and black caps for female traffic Police officers.
They were also directed to wear a white duty belt and white leather gutters fastened on their jungle boots for other ranks. Traffic officers of and above the rank of AIP were, however, exempted from wearing white gutters.
