A Song of Ice and Fire Series

The writing also does an excellent job of detailing the characters and their motivations. Like I mentioned before, you quickly start to form bonds with some of them and start resenting others. For me, I loved any chapter involving Jon Snow, Jaime, Tyrion, Daenerys, Brienne, Arya, LittleFinger, and Davos. I Hated chapters involving Joffrey, Cersei, Catelyn, and Sansa. I have severe issues with Catelyn and Sansa because they both are responsible for the downfall of their house more than any of the ones who actually plotted against the house. The cool thing is though that the writing does such a good job that I understand why they made those decisions, misguided as they were.

So in a nutshell this is a sort of mainstream book that I actually enjoyed. The only problem now is that I can't wait for the rest. It has been years since the last book and there are still three more tentatively to go. I was a little sated with the Hedge Knight graphic novels. The tease of the HBO series was also a nice distraction. I guess the author has just been engrossed with other projects. I just hope he doesn't die or anything so we don't end up with a posthumous debacle.

The Adventures of Pip and Flinx
I decided to read the Flinx books was because they told a complete story. You basically start when he is like ten years old and follow him all the way into his late twenties. You get to see him grow and see what shapes his character. He ends up being a very humble quiet character, who would just like to be left alone. The last book in the series was released in 2009 and I found it to be my favorite of the series. Mainly because it covers so much time and space, but also because it ends the series with no questions left unanswered. At the end you find he saves the universe, kills off most of the people that wanted him dead, and has the cliché weddings where all the key support characters from all the books show up. The best part for me was that after all that we find him months later of his extended honeymoon relaxing. His wife asks him what's wrong:

"Well then, " she prodded him a little more forcefully, "what is it?"
He looked away again and it struck her then that he was not upset. It seemed, actually, that he might in fact be just a little embarrassed. He did not, could not, meet her eyes.
"I'm—bored."
