Chess – the unrivalled champion of strategy games has been attracting players of all ages for countless centuries. BATTLE vs. CHESS is based on the simple yet ingenious concept of creating a fusion between professional chess software and upbeat, combat oriented game mechanics, complete with richly animated game pieces. At the outset of a match things seem quite basic: a 3D game board pits two opponents against each other in a seemingly ordinary game of chess. The game board itself is set in one of six available environments, each with its own unique landscape and presentation features. Traditionally recognized game pieces have been given a facelift as hulking stone golems and beastly chimaeras take the place of the typical rook and knight pieces respectively.

Well made game. Sadly not that kind I was searching for. They made a great tutorial on how to play chess and rules, made nice characters instead of boring old wooden pieces. Thats why I give it a thumb up.
But. I was expecting a game like the old DOS one, in which when you captured an enemy, the character killed the captured enemy on the battlefield (with sword or any weapon). Instead of that, this game implemented a new stuff into chess and thats a battle screen between 2 characters - yours and the enemy´s that your are capturing. You have to push the correct arrow key to perform an attack and if you miss, you are not capturing the enemy character - your troop is retreating back to its position and the enemy troop stays alive. So you lose a move. Like wtf? Thats not how the chess meant to be played. There is an other game mode, that deletes this new feature, but Im not going to play this game again just to see a different skin of original wooden pieces and having a nice background (environment)
Battle vs Chess is basically a chess game. There are several playing modes as well as mini games. What I love about this game is that each piece is intricately animated and as players move them around the board they spring into life, ready to wage war and when you attack a piece they engaged in a bloody combat before it is removed.
