One of the joys I get when exploring the catalogues of developers whose games I've fallen in love with is seeing the titles which lead to major changes in direction.

Which for Japanese developer Compile happened with the release of Gunhed, published in 1989 by Hudson Soft. This episode of Beyond The Scanlines explores this frantic shmup, showing just how those changes to Compile's formula would mix things up!
