Whilst we take speech synthesis for granted these days, back in the early days of home computers it took a fair bit more at first. Out of many hardware solutions which came out and vanished without a trace, the one with the most interesting legacy is Commodore's Magic Voice Speech Module for the Commodore 64.

In this video, I open and unbox one, play about with running some of the sample programs in BASIC, before demonstrating two of the commercial packages which shipped with support: Wizard of Wor and Gorf.
