Thanks to Lemonymous for revisiting Xenon's WWT videos and helping me figure out the methods to get it working. This works with both controller and KB+M, I use keyboard in this video because it's what I use for input normally.

In order to do this version of Walk While Talking, use the following steps:
1. Start as your main character.
2. Switch to your 2nd character.
3. Use an item from the ring menu.
4. Immediately switch back to the main character before the animation completes. On KB+M you can hit swap and ring menu at the same time to bug out steps 3/4 like in the video.
5. As soon as possible, start a charge attack and pull up the ring menu at the same time. Select some item to use.
6. Move the charge attack so that the end of it will place you in range of interacting with the sign post.
7. Let the charge attack go.
8. Spam interact in order to talk to the sign before the item you queued up is used.
9. If successful, you should have full movement control over your character with a controller.
9a. If you were a little slow in steps 3-5, you may end up running in place. If the first item use activated, then you will be fully locked in the signpost dialogue.

From my limited testing, this works only from the 2nd character to the main character, other slots don't activate the WWT glitch. This will work in towns as well, you can skip step 3, but you must still press the character swap buttons in order to make it work.

I've only been successful with WWT when using NPC or sign dialogues. I haven't found a way to activate it with saves or other prompts, but those would open up more possibilities.
