It is probably possible to sneak past the cone-head guys' visions and avoid a fight, but I just didn't wait for that. The people that attacked me seemed hollow, soulless - probably a result of tears - and had the same blank face, rather masks of the presidents. This part of the game is pretty creepy like the original Bioshock. At one point, we even see a head on a wheel chair, slowly rolling towards me without anyone pushing. I mean...
Anyway, we keep following the tears upstairs, while also hearing Elizabeth scream at points - slowly revealing she might have given up on me, and may well be pissed that I didn't come to rescue her.
