BioWare announced that they have cancelled the development of Shadow Realms, a PC exclusive 4v1 story-driven online action RPG. While the exact reason is unclear, BioWare Austin general manager Jeff Hickman said that they company is instead focusing on enhancing Dragon Age: Inquisition, working on the next game in the Mass Effect series and on Star Wars: The Old Republic. He said:

“As every Star Wars™ fan knows, this is a massive year in the Star Wars universe. We have some great plans for expanding this epic game this year, and look forward to sharing the news about those plans with our players in the coming weeks.”

Hickman mentioned that he knows some fans will be disappointed, and the company are planning to thank those who signed up for the Shadow Realms Closed Alpha. He said:

“While the team did amazing work on the game concept and we got lots of great feedback from our fans at events and through other game testing, right now there are other projects for the team to work on within the BioWare studios for the coming year and beyond.”

We know they are also currently working on a new IP, though we know little about what that is, exactly. And, honestly, while I have a lot of faith in BioWare, I really wasn’t sold on Shadow Realms – it was meant to be an episodic, narrative-driven 4v1 game, and I could never imagine how that would actually work.

I’m Alanah, and thanks for watching Button Bash.
