Bit vLog #34 - Sexism & Video Games (Isn't It About Time You Learn How to Make Your Own Sandwiches!)
This week things get a bit more serious. I want to introduce sexism in video games. This is a difficult topic to talk about as a woman simply because it will be difficult for men to relate. They don't experience gender orientated abuse. Whilst you may understand how receiving abuse is bad. I want to try and highlight how unacceptable, agressive, rude, and inappropriate some of the things said truly are. Whilst I highlight a range of different levels of abuse what I feel comes through is that when spoken as opposed to written they become worse. Much worse.
I'm not saying that men do not experience online abuse, merely that abuse full stop is wrong, and that this sexist abuse can be down right scary. It is not okay to tell someone you would rape then. You wouldn't do it in real life (I hope) so why does it suddenly become okay online?
Anyway, this is just a drop in the ocean of the issue, and I'd love to hear your views.
